The Finnish renewable diesel leader, which operates across the world, has released details of its partnerships that will bring renewable diesel to diesel vehicle owners in France
Neste has announced a new partnership agreement with two distributors in France to make Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ available for the first time in the market and to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% from diesel vehicles. It has also revealed an expansion of supply in California, USA.
Neste MY Renewable Diesel will be available in France from January. Unlike fossil diesel, Neste MY is a high-quality fuel made from wastes, residues, and other renewable raw materials. It delivers proven performance while lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 75% compared to fossil diesel*. And because Neste MY Renewable Diesel is completely compatible with all diesel engines—all you have to do is fuel up.
“We are very proud to start our collaboration with two new fuel distribution partners, Altens and Bolloré Energy in the French market. In France, transportation is the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 30% of all emissions.
“With Neste MY Renewable Diesel, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by as much as 75-95% over the life cycle of the fuel compared to fossil diesel,” said Peter Zonneveld, VP Sales EMEA, renewable road transportation at Neste.
Yesterday according to Biodiesel Magazine,Neste also announced it has expanded its capability to supply renewable fuels to customers on the West Coast of the United States in cooperation with Vopak, a leading energy industry infrastructure provider.
Neste commissioned terminal capacity at Vopak’s Los Angeles terminal in California for storing Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Neste MY Renewable Diesel. This is a major step in further expanding the availability of Neste’s renewable fuels in the Southern California region, enabling greenhouse gas emissions reductions in the transportation sector and supporting the energy transition on the West Coast of the U.S.
The Vopak Los Angeles Terminal is strategically located in the Port of Los Angeles and is well-connected to fuel logistics via vessels, barges, trucks and pipelines
In France Zonneveld said: “The collaboration between Neste, the world’s leading producer of renewable diesel, and Altens, a 100% dedicated provider of non-fossil and low-carbon solutions, reflects a joint commitment to effective decarbonisation initiatives.
“Our decision to join forces with Neste to make Neste MY Renewable Diesel available in France was based on the reliability and efficiency of the solution enabling significant greenhouse gas emission reductions for its users. Furthermore, Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a high-quality and high-performance fuel, meeting all specifications of relevant technical standards,” added Mohamed Bennama, director at Altens.
“As a major actor in distributing oil and gas in France and in Europe, Bolloré Energy is proud to announce the partnership with Neste. This is a step forward that is seamlessly connected to our ambitions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation – thanks to Neste MY Renewable Diesel,” said Thibaut de Rivoire, Deputy CEO of Bolloré Energy.
Neste was founded in 1948 with the purpose to secure Finland’s oil supply. In the following decades, the company grew steadily and built its two Finnish refineries, the first one in Naantali (1957) and the second in Porvoo (1965), which was later expanded multiple times. Natural gas, exploration and production, and chemicals joined our core refining and shipping activities. In the 1970s, Neste became Finland’s largest company and had an important role in balancing the Russian trade. Later Neste also established itself as a retail service station brand in Finland, the Baltic countries as well as Northwestern Russia.
In 1995, Neste became a listed company on the Helsinki Stock Exchange. A couple of years later, the company was merged with Imatran Voima to form Fortum Corporation, which was listed in December 1998. The merged oil and electricity company continued until 2005, when the oil business was spun off as a separate company and Neste Oil took its place on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.
In 2015, the company’s name Neste Oil was changed back to the original name, Neste, to reflect the change in our strategy towards renewables.
The late-1990s and early-2000s introduced a change of course: In 1996, Neste patented it proprietary NEXBTL refining technology to transform fats into molecules that could replace fossil raw materials in fuel production. Renewable diesel production began in Porvoo already in 2007, and in 2010 and 2011, Neste started up its new renewable products production plants in Singapore and in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
During the following decade and with the help of the legacy of innovation and passion for renewal, Neste reached its target to become the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel.
