India’s leading natural gas giant, GAIL, has revisited its net zero targets to be achieved by 2035, five years earlier than the original date, the company said on Friday.
“GAIL(India) Ltd board of directors today accorded approval to advance its net zero target for Scope-1 & 2 emissions by five years, from the year 2040 to the year 2034. This decision follows an extensive study undertaken by GAIL to enhance its sustainability goals and align with INdia’s broader Net Zero commitments,” the company said in a statement.
The company said that they plan to electrify their processes and integrate renewable energy sources. Additionally, they plan on installing battery energy storage systems (BESS), utilising compressed biogas(CBG), and also developing green hydrogen and carbon dioxide valirisation initiatives. The company also plans to invest in afforestation.
