Air travel shows every sign of increasing at a dramatic rate with seven of the busiest 10 days in US air travel having come in the past six months – the other three were in 2019, pre-pandemic
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says that Sunday (November 26) set an agency-wide record for the busiest air travel day ever with more than 2.91 million people passing through US airports
The Sunday after Thanksgiving has always seen passenger numbers soar and the TSA said on X, formerly Twitter, this year marked “the busiest day ever for air travel.”
Earlier this month, the TSA had forecast the holiday season could break records for air travel across the country and Sunday’s numbers were in line with TSA’s initial estimates from earlier this month.
The latest record comes less than five months after the last record on June 30 — when 2.88
million people were screened at airports across the country. This uptick in air travel comes after last year’s holiday season meltdown when millions of passengers faced delays and cancellations amid the busiest time of the year for travel.
This year passengers and airlines say there were some delays but it was not as bad as the summer rush. Seven of the busiest 10 days in US air travel have come in the past six months – the other three were in 2019, pre-pandemic before Covid-19 caused worldwide disruption to the airline industry.
